...dribble, sniff, gnuhh...

It's been a while since my last entry I know but if "anon" is correct then it's not worth reading any way, then again the main reason behind any weBLOG is a selfish one, it's just a diary that you don't mind people reading and don't really give a rats ass about what they think of your random mutterings and rants. Isn't it?

Just getting over a pesky little cold, (or if you're of the female persuasion, man flu) just got the head and sinus' stuffed with cotton wool feeling left. The random nose gag only lasted a couple of days, pity really as guessing what nostril would run next and for how long and in what colour was keeping me amused for hours at a time. Thankfully the comedy cough didn't last too long, the sort of wheezing judder that had black and purple flashes going off behind my eyes, I was lucky if I was sitting down when I coughed, as the first time I did one I ended up sitting on the floor in a confused state and my head swimming, again hours of fun for the family.

Here I am sitting in front of the same computer in the same classroom I was in a few weeks back when I did the ECDL, this time I'm doing the MOUS course and already my brain is starting to bleed and I'm yet to get to the really hard questions, two weeks of keyboard pounding fun, what joy! Still it's what I wanted to do.

The Great South Run was on down here the week before last, I didn't run myself ( those who know me will know why) but I acted as the support unit for some friends who did run it. The race was run, everyone was fantastic, money was raised for all sorts of charities and the weather was dreadfull. I have never before been as soaked to the skin while on dry land as I was that day, wetter than an otter in a washing machine. I'm afraid that while I was waiting for my friends to finish and come to the pickup point I did loose my sense of humor and when I found out that they where waiting behind a skate park while I was out in the middle of a field and experiencing the second stage of hypothermia, needless to say that I did have a bit of a grump on and left them to it then had to squelch the 3 miles back to my digs. It's amazing how warm you can get by just taking off wet clothes and having a mug of coffee with brandy instead of milk, Mmmmm.

Bought myself a big, warm and above all WATERPROOF coat on Monday.

Hurahh!

I'm still here, honest...

I'm still here.

Long time no write.

Went to Aldershot last week and you're probably thinking why, am I correct?

It was a day out to find where it is I will need to go and stay in January to do a training course. And no it's not to learn how to become a brickie!

Armed with a print out of Aldershot obtained from the AA's web site I got off the train, found my bearings, oriented the map and set off in the right direction (rare for me) and after 10 min walking I came to the first of several annoying little omissions on the map. A road that I needed to take had a barrier across it. Not the sort that you raise or lower to stop traffic, no, that would be too simple. No, this barrier was 18 foot high if it was an inch, all chain-link and razor wire with added razor wire on top. Drat, and double drat!!

Check the map, find alternative route, good and off I go. 5 mins later I come across another similar barrier to my progress, ho hum.

So in a philosophical mood I check the map, find alternate route and off I go. A few minutes later I am confronted with a very familiar sight, yes you guessed it, 18' of variously shaped bits of metal put together in a sort of fence like theme, I sense a pattern emerging and a feeling comes over me that tells me my map is a load of pants.

In the end I ended up going off the side of the map in an attempt to find a road that would swing back the way I needed it and would take me where I needed to be, I did find one but I feel it was more luck than jugement.

So what did I learn from all this?

  1. Aldershot has these blocked off roads as it is one big army base with a train station
  2. I will be living in barracks for the duration of my course(all the hotels are in the center of town miles from where I want to be).
  3. The AA have a lot to answer for (GITS!!)

The mouse on this computer is set to an annoyingly sensitive level (it's in an internet cafe) I think it's a ploy to have you wasting time chasing the pointer all over the bloody screen so you spend more time doing less, and to raise the low level anger and bitterness we all get throughout the day and which tarnishes the soul by making us really p####d off.

a bit of a breeze

There was a spot of inclement weather the other day, as you can see. Surely somebody must have thought that putting up the huge sail, sorry advertising/privacy screen, on a flimsy fence held down with wishful thinking and a few tie-wraps, was a bit of a bad idea especially as we're now heading into our much delayed winter, you know wind and rain and some more wind, ho hum.

I know it was possible for the rest of the fence to be blown down (on top of me) but I had to see what it was like, sad I know.

This ECDL thing, well, what can I say that wont insult the instructor more than our intelligence. The only time I've had to engage my grey matter in this last week and a bit was late this morning just before lunch as we started doing MS Access. I've not used access before, but even so the old noodle is barely ticking over.
I'll have to come back and do the advanced course and see if that is any more challenging, got to dash as it's mind taxing time again.
