Thanks to numerous people and one in particular, I have just ordered my provisional driving licence on line and it should be here in ten days time.
My advice...
Find somewhere very very safe to hide when I do my lessons

wow, the strangest thing being I'm in the processes of giving up my car so I won't drive anymore.
But good luck fella, I'll stay clear of the North of England until the carnage is over ... sometime around 2030 I guess.
Oh, and please tell me you'll be in an old mini or some similarly small car...It would please me.

It's all fallen a bit flat at the mo as the DVLA want some clarification as to my living arrangements. They want to know if I ever lived at a certain address 20 years ago, so it's back to forms and envelopes and about a 6 month wait while some faceless bureaucrat pulls his or her finger out.
ho hum.
I thought you were applying for a driving license, not a passport ... Ah, sorry, no, identity cards by the back door. Hmph.
